CARE FOR THE MOTHER TOO

Postpartum support

When a baby is born, the mother needs support too. Postpartum support focuses on more than baby routines: your rest, questions, changing emotions and everyday life matter as well.

How can postpartum support help?

Postpartum support makes space to discuss the mother's daily needs, rest, getting to know the baby and the roles of people around her. It can begin before or after birth. We shape the plan together around your support network, preferences and changing needs.

Who is this support for?

Mothers and families who want to plan ahead for life after birth or discuss practical support during the postpartum period.

What can we explore together?

  • General information about the postpartum period
  • Getting to know your baby and meeting daily needs
  • Planning rest and support from those around you
  • Breastfeeding and everyday care questions
  • Discussing the support roles of partners and family members
  • Referral when a concern needs medical assessment

While everyone asks about the baby, I listen to you too.

There is no single postpartum experience. Our conversations offer space to describe how you feel and where you need help. Sharing household tasks, managing visitors and finding opportunities to rest are discussed within your family's circumstances.

Asking for support is part of care

Midwife support does not replace psychiatric assessment or psychotherapy. Professional help is important for emotional difficulties that persist or affect daily life. In an emergency, seek healthcare without waiting for a message reply.

Let's find a starting point for your postpartum support

We can talk about your support network, rest and privacy preferences, and the daily tasks you find difficult. Your partner or family members are involved according to your wishes. The frequency, length and follow-up of meetings are agreed around need and availability, rather than assumed as a fixed package. A plan made before birth can be revisited as your actual needs emerge.

Before we meet

We clarify your needs, timing and arrangements at first contact. The location and ongoing plan depend on your circumstances. Simply note the questions that matter to you; you are not expected to know everything beforehand.

Questions you may have

Can we make a postpartum plan before birth?

Yes. We can discuss who will help after birth, everyday responsibilities and a communication plan in advance.

Can my partner join the meeting too?

We can explore the role of your partner and other support people in line with the mother's preferences.

Does this support include therapy?

No. It offers emotional support and help identifying needs, with referral to a relevant specialist when appropriate.
