FROM THE FIRST DAYS TO THE FIRST BIRTHDAY

Newborn and baby care

Caring for a tiny baby can bring big questions in the early days. Everyday care support helps families understand their baby's needs and discuss care questions with a professional.

What does baby care support cover?

You can discuss bathing, nappy changes, dressing, daily care routines and sharing responsibilities within your family. Preparation can start before your baby is born. During the first year, the focus can change with your baby's age and your needs.

Who is this support for?

Families preparing for newborn care or wanting to discuss everyday care questions during the first year.

What can we explore together?

  • Information about bathing your baby
  • Everyday care and hygiene questions
  • Holding your baby and creating a calm care environment
  • Getting to know your baby and sharing family responsibilities
  • Changing care needs during the first year
  • Referral when paediatric assessment is needed

Small steps, a familiar rhythm

We begin with the questions that matter most to your family. We discuss daily routines and the care items you use. Advice is considered in the context of your baby's age, health and paediatrician's assessment.

Care support alongside medical follow-up

Midwife support does not take over your paediatrician's growth and development checks, vaccinations, screening or examinations. If you are concerned about feeding, alertness or your baby's general condition, seek medical assessment without waiting for a routine appointment.

What is your priority for a baby care conversation?

Make a short list of the everyday care questions you want to discuss. We can choose together whether to focus on bathing, nappy changes, dressing or care routines at home. Family attendance and ongoing support are also part of planning. Your responsible healthcare team continues to provide your baby's medical monitoring and individual medical advice.

Before we meet

We clarify your needs, timing and arrangements at first contact. The location and ongoing plan depend on your circumstances. Simply note the questions that matter to you; you are not expected to know everything beforehand.

Questions you may have

Can we prepare before the baby is born?

Yes. We can discuss daily care arrangements, your questions and a family support plan in advance.

Is support only available during the newborn period?

Care and breastfeeding questions during the first year can also be discussed. Your baby's age and your needs are considered during the initial conversation.

Is there a separate sleep training programme?

A separate sleep training programme is not part of the confirmed services. Safe sleep resources and everyday care questions can be discussed.
