MIDWIFE SUPPORT ACROSS TURKEY

Wherever you are, let's start with your needs.

Based in Istanbul, with online and planned in-person midwife support across Turkey. We agree the meeting format, scope and arrangements together.

How is midwife support planned across Turkey?

Melike Spor is an independent midwife based in Istanbul, working with families across Turkey. Families outside Istanbul can explore online conversations and in-person support with travel arrangements. Availability and travel conditions are agreed at first contact. Begin by briefly sharing your city and what you need.

What can we discuss in an online midwife conversation?

Birth preparation, organising questions before birth, preparing for breastfeeding support, your postpartum support network and baby care questions can all be starting points. Whether online support is suitable depends on the service and your needs. Examination, diagnosis, treatment and emergency healthcare are outside the scope of an online conversation.

  • The questions to cover and the limits of support.
  • The meeting platform, a suitable time and how to communicate.
  • Your preferences about a partner or family member joining.
  • An in-person meeting or referral to the relevant healthcare team when needed.

Online or in person? Let's choose the format together.

Your city is not the only consideration. The topic, time you can set aside, privacy at home and anyone you want to include also matter. Begin with a short aim, such as “I want to discuss birth preparation with my partner.” We can explore which topics can be covered online and whether meeting in person is appropriate.

  • For online conversations: The platform, connection, sound and a space where you can talk without interruption matter.
  • For in-person meetings: Location, transport, attendance and timing are clarified in advance.
  • When planning both formats: We can discuss an online introduction followed by in-person support. Availability for each further meeting is agreed separately.

If you are not yet sure what to discuss, explore how to choose three priorities for your first conversation. Living in the same city does not prevent an online meeting, and distance is not the only consideration for meeting in person.

Preparing your space and privacy for an online conversation

Check your internet connection, device charge, microphone and camera beforehand. Choose a quiet, well-lit space where you can speak comfortably, with your question list and a way to take notes nearby. These practical steps also appear in the NHS video consultation guide.

Let us know beforehand if your partner or someone close to you will join. Someone outside the camera frame can also affect privacy. The NHS England Digital privacy guidancerecommends a private setting and knowing who is in the room. If you would like to speak alone for part of the meeting, say so. You can also explore ideas for deciding who joins your conversation.

Discuss in advance what happens if the connection or plan changes.

Clarify three things before you begin: how you will get in touch if the connection fails, whether another way of continuing is appropriate, and how to arrange a new time if needed. For in-person meetings, ask how changes of place or time will be communicated. Travel may need rearranging for meetings outside Istanbul; discuss these conditions directly.

At the end, briefly summarise the questions answered, topics still open and who is responsible for the next step. It is easier to follow the plan when the next contact and meeting format are clear. Explore how we move from first contact to support.

In-person support outside Istanbul

For an in-person meeting or birth companionship, the city, planned location, timing and transport are considered together. No meeting or attendance is confirmed until travel arrangements, service scope and fees are agreed. Nationwide support does not mean a permanent office in every city or availability on every date.

For hospital support, confirm the institution's rules for external midwives and companions beforehand. Your preferences and the responsible healthcare team's arrangements are both part of the plan.

Choose the area of support that fits your needs

Five things we clarify at first contact

  1. Location: Your city and, in Istanbul, your district.
  2. Needs: What you hope to discuss and the support you are interested in.
  3. Format: Your preference for an online or in-person meeting and its suitability.
  4. Arrangements: Date, location, scope, fees and any travel plan.
  5. Follow-up: Further communication and another meeting if needed.

Your first message can be short

You might begin: “Hello Melike, I would like support in my city. Could we discuss meeting options and availability?” You do not need to include detailed health records or identity information in a general message or form.

An initial enquiry does not guarantee an appointment or continuous access. Details are agreed together. Explore how we work together and midwife support in Istanbul for more information.

Frequently asked questions

Is only online support available outside Istanbul?

No. Both online and in-person options are offered across Turkey. Availability and travel arrangements for in-person support are agreed during an initial conversation.

How are consultation and travel fees determined?

Fees are discussed directly once the scope, timing, meeting format and any travel arrangements have been clarified.

Is hospital companionship during birth possible?

Requests are considered alongside availability, travel, hospital attendance rules and the responsible healthcare team's requirements. Birth attendance is not confirmed until these details have been agreed.
